UPDATE (5/6/22): Add-on products have been migrated to product modules
Table of Contents
1. What is a product module?
A product module is an add-on that is available with a given product that can not be purchased a la carte. For example lets say Sample PMS offers a housekeeping module that could be a substitute for housekeeping software, but it is not sold a la carte and must be purchased with Sample PMS.
2. What are the benefits of creating product modules?
🛠Simplified profile management and review collection. Market your product's available add-ons and modules more effectively to articulate your functionality without needing to manage tons of profiles, content and reviews
🔮 More transparency and clarity for hoteliers. Make it easier for hoteliers to understand what products you offer, and what capabilities they have.
📈 Increase your visibility. Gain visibility in categories where one of your products serves a similar need (even if you don't offer a standalone product in the category)
💸 Generate more leads. Ability to generate leads in categories where you serve a particular need even if you don't have a standalone product offering
3. How can I create product modules?

4. Why were add-on profiles migrated to product modules?
Here is a short video explaining the transition from the old 'add-on' product profiles to the new 'product modules' feature as well as the full update announcement from 4/6/22.
5. How are add-on products different from standalone products?
Product Modules | Standalone Products | |
Product can be purchased a la carte as a standalone product by hoteliers | 🚫 No | ✅ Yes |
Available and accessible to all HTR hotelier users | 🚫 No | ✅ Yes |
Has its own dedicated standalone product profile | 🚫 No | ✅ Yes |
Ability to collect reviews | 🚫 No | ✅ Yes |
Ability to have its own HT Score | 🚫 No | ✅ Yes |
Able to compete in the HotelTechAwards | 🚫 No | ✅ Yes |
Able to generate leads | ✅ Yes | ✅ Yes |
6. Why Can't Product Modules Compete in the HotelTechAwards?
Ultimately it comes down to transparency for users. When a hotelier is in a category looking for a tool to help them with that specific need, most are not open to fully changing out other systems to meet that need. Therefore, having add-on products displayed alongside standalone products is misleading because it would lead users to believe that they can similarly purchase that product when in-fact, they need to purchase and change out another system to be able to use the given add-on product/module. Similarly, the HotelTechAwards recognize and promote best of breed products in each category so if the majority of users are not able to use the product (without buying additional products and/or switching out existing systems that they likely do not want to switch out), it is misleading and frustrating for users.
7. What if a company has listed a standalone product that is really a product module
