Bot click prevention is a critical part of HTR's PPC ad auction program to ensure that:
Your credits are spent on real potential customers, not wasted on fake clicks or internal interactions.
Your campaign data is accurate, giving you a true picture of your ad performance.
Your return on investment (ROI) is maximized, as your ads reach genuine users who are interested in your products or services.
At HotelTechReport, we have made significant investments in state of the art technology to ensure that your ads are only clicked on by genuine users. Below are the extensive measures that we have taken to follow industry best practices to defend against bot clicks.
1. Cloudflare Bot Management
We utilize Cloudflare’s advanced bot management solutions as our first line of defense. Cloudflare employs several sophisticated techniques to detect and mitigate bot traffic:
Behavioral Analysis: Cloudflare analyzes the behavior of visitors to distinguish between bots and humans. This involves looking at patterns such as mouse movements, scrolling, and other interactions that are difficult for bots to mimic accurately.
Machine Learning: Cloudflare uses machine learning algorithms to continuously improve its ability to detect bots. By learning from vast amounts of data, these algorithms can identify new and evolving bot behaviors.
Threat Intelligence: Cloudflare gathers threat intelligence from its global network to stay updated on the latest bot threats. This information helps us to quickly adapt and respond to new types of bot attacks.
2. State-of-the-Art Bot Identification Libraries
HTR's second layer of defense involves using state-of-the-art bot identification libraries. These libraries help us identify and filter out known bots by analyzing various indicators and patterns that suggest automated activity.
Key Features of These Libraries:
User Agent Filtering: Recognizes and filters out bots based on user agents, browser and device information.
Regular Updates: Ensures we stay ahead of new bots by frequently updating the list of known bots.
3. Additional Safeguards to Validate Click Quality
In addition to these external defenses, HotelTechReport has implemented several internal policies and practices to protect your advertising credits:
3a. Vendor clicks are NOT counted
If a vendor is logged into our system and clicks on their own ad, it does not deplete their credits. This ensures that your credits are used for reaching potential customers, not for internal clicks.
3b. Single charge per device
We count clicks on your ad only once per device session. If someone clicks on your ad multiple times from the same device, you are only charged for the first click. This prevents inflated click counts and ensures you are only paying for genuine interest. We have a 30-minute look back window to ensure that in the rare occurrence of users coming back and clicking on an ad, it is genuinely considered a new session. Our testing shows that repeat clicks within this window are nearly nonexistent, protecting you from unnecessary charges.
3c. Tracking links
For each campaign that you run you'll not only be able to see real time campaign analytics via the campaign analytics tab but you'll also be able to input a tracking link which you can use to verify clicks in your own 3rd party analytics tools for additional peace of mind.
Conclusion
With Cloudflare’s advanced bot management solutions, state-of-the-art bot identification libraries, and our additional safeguards, we strive to ensure that your advertising efforts are effective and efficient. By understanding and implementing these methods, you can have confidence that your ads are reaching real users and that your advertising dollars are being well spent.
